A Spooky Yet Wholesome Velma Costume Photoshoot

🔍 Jinkies! If you're a fan of Scooby-Doo and cosplay, then buckle up 🚗 because I'm about to take you on a groovy ride through the making of my Velma costume photoshoot with the talented Carlos Flores Tavitas. Like Velma finding her glasses 👓, let me illuminate the journey for you (complete with some unexpected challenges 😅).

The first time I worked with Carlos, he masterfully captured my Aerith photoshoot🌺, so I knew we'd make magic again ✨. But this time, things got a little... dark 🔦. Literally! Thanks to a supplement I was taking 💊 and a chronic dry eye flare-up 😣, my eyes had become as sensitive to light as a vampire 🧛‍♂️ at a tanning salon. So, we opted for an indoor studio shoot that would perfectly suit Velma's spooky mystery-solving vibes 🕵️‍♀️.

Carlos sent me a mood board filled with candlelit inspiration 🕯️ that had me more excited than Scooby finding a Scooby Snack 🐾! We wanted to create a unique, non-sexualized version of Velma, focusing on craftsmanship rather than sex appeal (not that there's anything wrong with sexy cosplays – they can be amazing too!… It’s just not my brand flavor right now if ya know what I mean). My main makeup inspiration was a signature 70’s look. I wanted it to have a retro throw back vibe because I grew up watching Scooby-Doo in the 90’s (yes, I’m a Millennial 😉).

The result? A set that was as delightfully eerie as Disney's Haunted Mansion 👻 – just the right amount of spookiness without going overboard.

We experimented with two different sets in the studio: one filled with flickering candles 🕯️, and another with a plain backdrop. I quickly discovered that I feel way more comfortable in front of the camera when I have props or a set to work with. Without them, I was as lost as Shaggy without Scooby 🐶.

Thankfully, Carlos was there to guide me through the poses like a true cosplay sensei 🥋, and when the candles came out, I felt right at home 🏠. We had to work fast, though, as my eyes could only tolerate makeup and contacts for a limited time before they rebelled like a gang of masked villains 😈.

Despite the challenges, we managed to capture the essence of Velma in a unique, spooky, and non-sexualized way – proving that, like the Mystery Inc. gang, we can overcome any obstacles 💪. Zoinks! Now that's what I call a successful Velma costume photoshoot! 📸

Here are a few of my favorite shots from the day (click to enlarge) 🖼️. Hope you enjoy! 😊
