My Tales from the Fandom Podcast Feature: Talking Final Fantasy, Cosplay, and Finding My Creative Voice

A year ago today, I hit “record” as Queen Amy Dala Cosplay.

When David, the host of Tales from the Fandom, invited me on to talk about two of my favorite things, Final Fantasy and cosplay, I knew it would be a fun chat. What I didn’t realize was how much that conversation would end up marking a milestone in my cosplay journey.

What we talked about

  • How I first fell into Final Fantasy (spoiler: it involves sneaking into my brother’s room to play his save file, sorry not sorry)

  • Which games and characters I love most, and the ones that still haunt my backlog

  • Getting into cosplay later in life and what that experience has been like

  • Why cosplay is more than costumes; it’s confidence, creativity, and community

  • My favorite and comfiest cosplays (yes, comfort matters)

  • Future plans and why I’ll never stop experimenting with new characters

A full-circle moment

Looking back now, this episode feels like a time capsule. It captured where I was as a newer cosplayer still finding my creative rhythm.

Since then, so much has changed. I’ve built more costumes, connected with more amazing creators, and shared more of my journey online. But this conversation was one of the first times I really opened up about what cosplay means to me, and that still makes it special.

If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re too old, too late, or too new to start something creative, here’s your reminder that it’s never too late to start building your version of magic.

Final thoughts

It’s wild how much can change in a year. That one podcast chat gave me the courage to say yes to more opportunities and connections, and it reminded me how much I love talking about the things that light me up.

So here’s to more Final Fantasy builds, more creative chaos, and more “say yes and see what happens” moments!

Thanks for being here, and thanks to Tales from the Fandom for helping me share a piece of my heart with the world. 💜
